This tip is great for those times when you’re considering making changes to your QB file, or if you need to train someone new in using your file but don’t want to risk making a mess of you business books!
QuickBooks Online
Open a browser window, and use this link: https://qbo.intuit.com/redir/testdrive This sample company is setup as a US version of the software, specifically QB Online Plus. Your own file may or may not have all of the features depending on your subscription level, but will give you a good place to try out new things! Quick reminder: don’t connect your bank account to this fake company though! All done, simply close the browser window.
QuickBooks Desktop
QBDT has even more options as it allows you to choose a sample company in the same industry. This is great if you are not using some features and wondering how they would work. Launch QuickBooks (or close your company if already logged in). In the “No Company Open” box, use the down error next to ‘Open a sample file’ and choose a similar industry (see image). All done, close the company and you’ll get back to the “no company open” screen and be ready to access your own working file.
